Why You Should Visit Lennox Head

It is hard to say whether the biggest atraction of Lennox Head is the awesome sporting potential or the great chilled out community atmosphere with cafe’s and beautiful walks. On the sporting side of things, there is nothing short of an abundance of choices. On first look, the two most obvious sports enjoyed in the area are surfing and kiteboarding. On any day with great surf (and they are regular!) the water is littered with bobbing surfboards as far as the eye can see – and there are several more beaches North and South which are even more popular for surfers.

On any day with strong wind, the sky is littered with a plethora of different colored kites. As I sit here writing this, there are at least 5 in my field of vision. With the famous seven mile beach of downwind, it is no wonder it is so popular. Likewise, with the wind out there are always hang gliders to seemingly hover above the lookout due to the strength of the wind up that high. Needless to say, if involves wind or surf, you will be catered for at Lennox Head.

Lake Ainsworth is a huge lake dedicated to swimming, kayaking and various other non powered water sports. Around the lake are a backpackers, caravan park and the Lake Ainsworth Sport and Recreation Center. If that isn’t a sign of just how sporty Lennox Head is, I don’t know what is! The Sport and Recreation Center is booked out by schools and businesses for weekends away and leadership building camps, but can also be booked out by holidays makers. They offer all kinds of activities both on an off the water and is an awesome option for an active family getaway.

With a range of accommodation, there is something for every budget and length of stay. For the short term there are a couple of motels with their various merits. For medium length stays there is a backpackers, a caravan park and various holiday homes. The small beach front nature of the town has sparked an interest in investors buying up holiday properties to rent out as it gives them a higher return. It also means they are much cheaper then a hotel or motel for a longer period of time. I write this from a large three bedroom apartment overlooking the entire of Lennox Head, one hundred meters from the beach which is worth under AUD$800 per week (at the time of writing). Try getting a place that good in a motel for that cost!

It is easy to see that Lennox Head has someone for everyone, and I haven’t even scraped the surface. With nearby townships like the party capital Byron Bay, the list goes on and on. Lennox head is definitely worth a big consideration for your next family or other getaway.
